Winter Wellness

Winter has a bad reputation when it comes to health & wellness. There’s less daylight each day so we spend less time outside, and more time snuggled up on the couch with Netflix and a jar of Nutella. (maybe that’s just me!) The lack of sunshine not only affects how active we are but also has huge effect on our mood too. Most of us over indulge at Christmas time on festive foods, Prosecco and endless amounts of chocolate. Then the New Year starts and we’re hibernate in chunky knitwear, searching online for flights to the sun, and it seems even colder at home without the Christmas tree lights. Okay, so it might not seem like the most inspiring time of the year but as an eternal optimist, here is my guide to feeling great this winter. Resolutions – It’s February, time to revisit those resolutions. Be positive! Instead of making a list of things that you’re going to give up, instead create a list of things that you ARE going to do. What A Year !

Wow . . . I can’t really believe that I started writing this blog one year ago. It was the first thing that I wrote on my 2015 To-Do list. When I sat down and started to create this blog, I didn’t really have any expectations or specific ambitions in mind. I just wanted to share my passion for fitness and to hopefully inspire other women to be more active too. Throughout the year I began to find other people that shared my love for running, yoga and neon trainers! I’ve met some inspiring people, worked with some of my favourite brands and had a lot of fun, laughs and sweat along the way. Here are some of the highlights of my fitness blog so far . . . I started the year with four new personal training clients, each of them had very different goals. I’m always mega excited to meet a new client and to create a plan for them. People decide to work with a personal trainer for lots of different reasons, …

#My Sports Philosophy

The health & fitness industry has never been so popular! These days it seems like we are all spending more time working out, and spending more cash on fancy leggings and healthy cookbooks. We have calorie counting apps, activity trackers, fitness classes, running clubs, etc. Living a healthy, active lifestyle is now easier than ever. Our increased awareness of health & fitness can of course, have both a positive & a negative effect. Many brands encourage us to question what we are eating & how active we are each day. For example buying food products that are ‘wheat free’ or ‘gluten free’, it is unnecessary to eliminate gluten from your diet if you are not in fact intolerant to gluten. Often the message of ‘health & fitness’ can be very contradictory. Brands will use language and images to shame women into feeling bad about their bodies or to spend money on products, teas, books & clothes that promise to make us feel & look amazing! Many restrictive diets and extreme exercise regimes, are in fact, …

Lorna Jane – Inspired Book Launch

Earlier this week I was invited to the book launch of Lorna Jane Clarkson’s latest book, INSPIRED. This hardback book has 208 pages of delicious recipes, beautiful photography exercise guides and inspiring messages. This book is designed to inspire us all to live a healthy, active & happy life. The book launch was held at London’s beautiful Laboratory Spa, the sun was shinning as we sat in the garden and  listened to some wonderful talks by nutritionist Ruth Tongue, fitness girls ‘Twice the Health’ and SportsStylists.coms Lucy Denver. After a high intensity workout with Carley Newson, we were all ready for some of Ruth’s delicious snacks and smoothies from The Juice Well. [Carley’s 30 minute workout focused on core strength & body weight exercises, her super toned bod was motivation indeed!] Lorna Jane are an activewear brand that empowers women to live a healthy and active life. The clothes are designed to make you look and feel great whilst you workout. Click here to view their activewear collection online at House of Fraser . Thanks for having …

Working out with Alexandra Wood

Earlier this week I started training with a new client, Alexandra Wood. Alex is an award winning bespoke mens suit designer & a mother to three. After the school run, she  heads to her London showroom, based in Savile Row. Oh, and I should probably mention that Alex is getting married next year. Congratulations! Alex has kindly agreed to share her fitness journey with us and let you know what it is really like to train with me. Over to Alex . . . In the past, I have been through several rounds of boot camps which have been gruelling but with great results. However, I seem to constantly be prone to injury, whether it be on my neck and shoulders or on my lower back and I find that it’s very difficult to keep up that level of exercise for a long period of time. The last set of exercises I did was the 30 day shred and I did it every morning religiously and lost two inches from my hips and waist. However, for me …

Get Fit For Free !

Often there is an assumption that living well costs a lot. Weekly pilates classes, super food salads and organic face oils all come with a price tag. Of course we don’t have to spend a lot of cash to live a healthy lifestyle, so why does the wellness industry have such an expensive reputation? Is health and wellness a privilege ? If you are living on a tight budget, balancing a busy life, working full time and raising kids, all at the same time, then perhaps rooftop yoga and making super juices could be at the bottom of your to-do list. As a nation that is obsessed with diets and exercise, apparently, we are spending thousands of pounds each year on ‘being fit’. However, some of the healthiest countries in the world are not the richest, so do we need to spend a lot to stay in shape? The stats show that the residents of Sweden are some of the healthiest and happiest people on earth. They have a good work/life balance and are expected …

The Launch of Whistles X Frame Activewear Collection

I’m super excited about the launch of Whistles new activewear range in collaboration with Frame studios in Shoreditch. Earlier in the year I took part in the photo shoot for this activewear collection and I have been eagerly awaiting the launch ever since. It was such a fun day and everyone at the studios was full of energy and passion. It was clear from the start that both Whistles and Frame wanted to celebrate fit, active, healthy women. Many sports brands use images of super skinny models holding a yoga matt as though it were a clutch bag. This does not promote a healthy body image nor does it inspire us to get active. The ladies at Frame studios have an inspiring approach to fitness. It’s accessible & fun! Their timetable is packed full of awesome classes and their kick ass instructors will certainly motivate you to ‘move your frame’! At the shoot, the Whistles team styled me in a black, one shouldered leotard and teal coloured dance trousers. I haven’t worn a leotard since my days at …

Breakfast Wrap.

Here is the recipe for my breakfast wrap. We are all usually up by 7am in our house, I know that this is probably considered a lye in for some of you. [Mothers to those 5am wakers, I salute you!] I used to love having cereal, fruits and honey for breakfast but recently I have made a switch from sweet to savoury in the mornings.   If I’ve eaten a sugary breakfast before 8am, I’m usually feeling really hungry again by 11am. I’ve essentially set off on blood sugar roller coaster and what goes up must come down. However, when I eat protein for breakfast like eggs and ham I don’t get those sugar cravings. These breakfast wraps take about 5 minutes to make and they are so delicious! I truly believe that you should eat all of the foods that you enjoy and that if you’re active most days then there is no need to count calories. So, how do you like your eggs? Ingredients  1 Tortilla Wrap 2 Eggs (scrambled) 2 slices of Prosciutto  1 Avocado …

Infruition 7 Days 7 Ways

I am so happy to see the sun shinning! This week, to make the most of this great weather, I have been training with my clients outside. We’ve been running, lunging, stretching and sweating! It’s important to stay hydrated after a tough workout, especially during the summer.  I recently discovered Infruition water bottles, at the health & fitness convention, Be:Fit London. The infrution bottle allows you to create your own flavoured water by adding fresh fruit to the chamber inside the bottle. I have been experimenting with different fruit combinations and here are some of my favourites.
