Learning to Swim

So earlier on this year I shared a blog post titled ‘Making A Splash!‘ I talked about how both Jude and I will be starting swimming lessons at David Lloyd Health Club. A few months later, here is an update as to how we’re both getting on. . . Having our David Lloyd club membership throughout the summer school holidays was absolutely brilliant. Rob and I could train together in the gym whilst Jude enjoy the kids club. We signed up for swimming lessons with a wonderful swimming coach who is aptly named David. Jude started off really well, he was excited about the lesson and he seemed really keen to get in the water. However, he quickly became nervous when he realised that his feet couldn’t reach the bottom and that I was’t getting in with him. He clung on to David and gripped his t-shirt with both hands for most of the thirty minute lesson, but at least he came out smiling. The following few lessons Jude seemed to become more and more anxious …

Athleisure . . . Fitness is in Fashion.

I was recently invited to a talk about ‘Athleisure’ & sporty style, hosted by ELLE magazine and MATCHESFASHION. ELLE’s senior fashion editor, Michelle Duguid, spoke about fit kit wardrobe essentials, the newest activewear brands and how to smarten up a sporty look. Music to my ears! FYI It’s officially acceptable to wear trainers with everything! (Michelle said so) Here are my top five sporty style rules . . . Mix and Match. Add a sporty jacket or jumper to your smart suit trousers. You can’t really go wrong with a great pair of classic black trousers right? Big Logo Love. Many sports brands use big logos as their signature. 90’s faves like FILA & ELLESSE are making a come back. Yippeee! Fresh Kicks. It may be acceptable to wear trainers with every outfit but make sure that they are clean. Sweaty running shoes are not the one. Layer It Up. It’s a kind of awkward moment between Summer and Autumn, layering looks good but it also means you’re prepared whatever the weather. Wear What You Want. …

RUN beautiful COPENHAGEN

First stop on my RUN beautiful series is Copenhagen. I was lucky enough to be invited to join the adidas runners for a 12k run in the beautiful Scandinavian city. I’ve never been to Copenhagen before, but after just a few hour wondering around the city, I knew I was going to love it. We arrived on Friday afternoon, the airport is a short train journey away from the main city. Absolutely everyone cycles in Copenhagen and there is a Joe & The Juice on every corner. We spent the evening exploring the city and I couldn’t resist lacing up for a short run before dinner. If you fancy a weekend get away and you’re looking for a beautiful city to run, here’s why you should visit Copenhagen. . . How to get there – You can get a return flight from London for less than £100 and the flight is only an hour. Perfect if you’re only visiting for a few days or if you’re traveling with kids. Check Sky Scanner to compare flight …

RUN beautiful

As I’m sure you already know, I love to run. Running is so many things to so many  people. It can be a way to escape and be alone with your thoughts, a way to challenge yourself, physically and mental, it can also be an amazing way to explore a new place. Over the last few years, my love for running has grown so much. I have found some great places to run near to home, as well as joining the London Midnight Runners to run through the iconic streets and bridges of London. I have completed 5k, 10k and 10 mile races and so far I’ve clocked up the miles in London, Zurich, Paris, Sardinia & Newquay. Earlier this year, we visited Cagliari for a family holiday. Each morning I went out on foot to explore the old town and to run along the beautiful Italian coastline. Whilst away I shared this image on Instagram with this caption … ‘Run the world. One of the best ways to explore a new city, is to …

Adidas pureBOOSTX 5K run.

Last night I led a run through East London to road test the adidas red pureBOOSTX shoes. The shoes are designed specifically for women’s feet, I’ve been running in them for a month for my 5K a day run challenge, PBX are my new favourite footwear! The ladies arrived at 6pm and swapped their kicks for a pair of PBX. After a quick warm up, we were ready to run. Our 5k route took us from Shoreditch, towards Monument, passed the Museum of London, through Old Street and back to the Virgin London Marathon Sweatshop store. If you’re a London road runner, then you get used to navigating the traffic and dodging commuters. I love running though the city and it’s way more fun to join a group than to go solo. If you want to join me next week to workout and run in the PBX shoes, keep your eyes on my instagram – @adriennetmm. I’ll be posting the info and link to the tickets on Monday. Thanks for having me adidasuk. I can’t …

The Pack – Virgin Active

Last week I was invited to join ‘The Pack’ spin class at Virgin Active. A 60 minute class where three teams compete in four mega tough challenges. The class is super fun and really brings out your competitive spirit! I was the pack leader for the fitness family team. I was joined by bloggers Hannah and Emily (Twice the Health), Tara (OnThatFlex), Mummy blog royalty Anna Whitehouse (Mother Pukka), Shakira Akabusi (StrongLikeMum), Danielle Linton (KeepItSimpELLE) & Fabianne (TheFashionNutritionist). What a team! Remember, us Mama’s have been through the toughest workout on earth, LABOUR! Our challengers. . . The blue team was lead by gorgeous TV presenter and DJ, AJ Odudu. The yellow team was lead by John Robertson, founder of The Everyday Man. During the class you can see your team on a big screen at the front of the studio. It doesn’t show individual efforts but instead a pink, yellow and blue symbol shows you which of the teams is leading in each of the challenges. I definitely worked harder than I would in …

AJ Bell Triathlon

We did it! On Saturday I joined mega fitspo gals Hayley and AJ to complete a team relay triathlon. What an incredible experience! Almost a week later, I’m still feeling so inspired! The London Triathlon is hosted over two days and is the worlds largest triathlon. This year there were more than 13,000 participants! We arrived at the Excel London at midday, the centre is huge so we spent the first hour navigating our way to registration etc. Luckily, we had Hayley with us. Hayley is an accomplished triathlete and she completed the course last year as an individual (my hero!) AJ and I were complete newbies and to be honest, we were clueless! Hayley took on the 1500m swim, before handing over to AJ who cycled 40k and then finally, I ran 10k. I stood at the side of the water and watched as the swimmers got into the water and waited at the start line. The open water swim looked so scary and overwhelming to me, I literally had butterflies as I stood …

#CrossTheLine

So, when it comes to running, I’ve discovered that 10k is the perfect race distance for me. I’m totally amazed by marathon runners, I admire their dedication because I know the training is not only time consuming but also mega tough on the body. I don’t know if I’d ever be able to complete a marathon and I think I would just hate the training. I always tell people that when it comes to fitness you should do what you love. I enjoy running shorter speedy races, 10k races are perfect for me. This weekend I’ll be racing again, here’s how I’m preparing to cross the finish line. FUEL Pre race fuel is mega important, I will be starting the day with porridge and a banana and date smoothie. I’ll start increasing my water intake the day before the race and on the way to the race I’ll grab a Bounce ball or Nakd bar as well. TRAINING I know it sounds boring but consistency is key! I’ve been running longer slow steady runs as …

Sweaty Betty – The Contour Leggings

I was recently quoted in Women’s Health magazine saying ‘Life’s too short for boring black leggings’. Well, Sweaty Betty must have got the memo! These fire print leggings are anything but boring. I met up with the SB team to showcase three ways to style the leggings from street to sport. First up, I’ve teamed the leggings with a black biker jacket, backpack and grey vest top. The leggings are loud, the darker colours add a contrast. As you can see from the above photo, the high visibility will also ensure that you are safe when posing in the middle of the road! Very important.          Next up, a denim dress and pumps. When it’s hot in London, it usually only lasts for about one week so make the most of it! Go on, be brave, crop tops are making a come back! Last but not least. Mum on the run! A Beyonce playlist will help you feel awesome when your running in fire print! You can shop the Contour leggings at SweatyBetty Share …

Stella McCartney adidas AW16 Collection.

Today I kickstarted my morning at Another Space gym in London for the launch of the Stella McCartney adidas autumn/ winter 16 collection. We were joined by non other than supermodel MEGA babe Karlie Kloss! If you follow Karlie on snapchat then you’ll know that she is no stranger to the gym. She’s super dedicated and her training looks tough. As a high school student, before becoming a high fashion model, Victoria Secret angel and BFF to Taylor Swift, Karlie was very active and sporty. She attended dance classes, played team sports as well as running and swimming. Karlie is a role model to so many women around the world and now she is the face of the latest Stella campaign. I arrived at the gym at 7am and changed into my new kit. As a lover of both fitness and fashion, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend a Friday! Our workout was split into two twenty minute classes. A boxing inspired HIIT class, followed by a short spinning session. The studio …
