3 Stripe Style

There’s a new section on That’s My Mum . . . Sports Style! As a lover of both fashion and fitness, I’ll be sharing my favourite activewear pieces, my gym bag essentials and all things sporty and stylish. The sportswear trend can be seen both in and out of the gym. Fashion brands are incorporating sporty elements like trainers, backpacks and sweatshirts into their collections and street style looks have replaced high heels for high tops. Personally, I love bright colours and bold prints. Active apparel is fun as well as functional. How else could you justify wearing neon palm tree printed leggings? These days I own more pairs of trainers then I should probably admit too. The treadmill has become a catwalk! First up is my 3 stripe style from Adidas. I’m a huge fan of Adidas, especially their ‘originals’ kit. It’s the perfect studio to street wear combo. Photographs by Will Patrick

Blogger Photography Tips

Here are my top tips for taking great photos. Anyone who knows me will know that I love taking photos. My favourites are displayed all over the house and I love making photo albums and scrap books. Long before Instagram existed I used to snap candid photos of my friends &  family, I carried around a huge Nikon camera on holidays, I even took photos for a family wedding. I’ve always loved curating images that capture a real moment. So, I thought I’d share some of my top tips for taking great photos. It really doesn’t matter whether you’re using an SLR, a compact camera or an iphone, the same rules apply. 1. Light. Probably the most important thing when taking photos is lighting. Daylight is the best light for faces as it’s the most natural. If you can’t get outside to take the photograph, make the room is as light as possible. Open the curtains and take the photo near to a window. Always make sure the light (the window) is behind you. (the …

Life List . . .

A life list, bucket list, 30 things before 30. Whatever the name, I often hear people talk about these lists. Places to visit, personal ambitions, learning a new skill etc. It sounds like a fun idea in theory. Why are people so keen to make a to-do list for their entire life? I guess there are benefits to making such a list, especially if you actually manage to achieve all of the things you’ve written down. Personally, I guess I have sort of created a list in my head but I have never actually written it down in black and white. I think if I write it all down, then I am putting some kind of pressure on myself. Setting myself up for disappointment, what if I never complete the London marathon? or go to Glastonbury festival? Both things on my non-list. I think that in our digital world, there is a constant stream of other peoples achievements. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, they are all filled with your friends ‘news’. Beach photographs, engagement rings, job promotions. …

‘A Perfect Sunday’

Sunday is quickly becoming my favourite day. The week days are always mega busy, training clients, teaching classes, school runs, housework, emails etc! Sometimes, I feel like there are two me’s running around. One of me is doing Mummy duties, attending birthday parties, reading dinosaur books & singing phonics songs. The other me, is leading fitness events, modelling active wear, balancing upside down in a headstand & running through London at midnight! (literally) I have always loved being busy and I really enjoy the variety that each week brings as a personal trainer & a fitness blogger. However, sometimes just looking at the calendar makes my head spin. I try to find a balance for both my body & mind, it is so important to rest and to have some time off. I always look forward to Sundays. A day with my boys, no work, no rushing & no plans. Yesterday was one of these days. . . . We were woken up early by Jude, (4 year olds don’t believe in lie-ins) and we …

What A Week!

Ah Friday, it’s good to see you. I’m currently enjoying a restful morning in my baggy jeans after a super busy week of lycra & lunges. Earlier this week I was back at the Akasha Wellness Centre in Hertfordshire. They have just added a new class to their timetable, ‘Cardio Re-former Pilates’. This class promises to get you sweating whilst sculpting and toning your arms, abs, & legs. Sounds good to me. The Akasha exercise studio is a beautiful barn conversion, the space is full of light and it’s lovely and quiet. After a busy week of rushing around, it’s a great place to escape for some time-out, so I thought I’d go and check out their new class. The cardio re-former class incorporates a jump board, free weights, a ball and a hoop. We performed a fusion of cardio & pilates exercises and the result was intense. My legs were shaking after just ten minutes! I wouldn’t recommend this class for beginners but if you’re looking for something challenging, that will get you super toned in time …

Breakfast Wrap.

Here is the recipe for my breakfast wrap. We are all usually up by 7am in our house, I know that this is probably considered a lye in for some of you. [Mothers to those 5am wakers, I salute you!] I used to love having cereal, fruits and honey for breakfast but recently I have made a switch from sweet to savoury in the mornings.   If I’ve eaten a sugary breakfast before 8am, I’m usually feeling really hungry again by 11am. I’ve essentially set off on blood sugar roller coaster and what goes up must come down. However, when I eat protein for breakfast like eggs and ham I don’t get those sugar cravings. These breakfast wraps take about 5 minutes to make and they are so delicious! I truly believe that you should eat all of the foods that you enjoy and that if you’re active most days then there is no need to count calories. So, how do you like your eggs? Ingredients  1 Tortilla Wrap 2 Eggs (scrambled) 2 slices of Prosciutto  1 Avocado …

Birchbox May 2015 ‘Free Your Mind’

Whilst I was out shopping recently, a sales assistant at a beauty counter asked me if I needed any help. I was looking a little dazed and confused at the huge amount of beauty lotions and potions on offer. She then asked me what my current skin care regime was and what products I liked to use. To be honest, my skin care regime is pretty basic & I share the bathroom each morning with a 3 year old and his dinosaurs. I felt a little overwhelmed by the amount of products that this lady claimed to be ‘essentials’. I ended up leaving the shop with the same Clinique bronzer that I have been buying for the last four years. Later that week I met up with a friend and she introduced me to Birchbox. I’m sure that you have probably heard of Birchbox before but if like me, you’re a little late to the party, then here’s what you need to know. Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription service. Your box will include beauty, skin care …

Go Bananas!

Bananas are awesome! There is a long list of super health benefits to eating bananas, I won’t bore you by listing them all. (Google it) If you want to do just one thing this week, to be more healthy, simply have a banana! They are an easy snack to grab on the go, they’re cheap, and if you don’t like the taste, blend em up in a smoothie, or bake them in a cake, there’s no excuse. It’s not always easy to get kids to eat all the good stuff but bananas are a great place to start. I add half a mashed banana to my sons porridge in the mornings. Bananas are great for breakfast as they contain slow releasing carbs. I know that carbs have a bad reputation these days, but we really do need them. Also, you could try baking with bananas in my Breakfast Muffin Recipe here. (Note for the calorie counters – A medium sized banana is less than 100 calories.) (Note for the runners – Bananas help to prevent cramp) So …

Sweet Potato Brownies!

Tonight I made ‘Deliciously Ella‘s’ sweet potato brownies. They truly are delicious! I am a self confessed sugar addict, so I wasn’t sure if brownies made from vegetables would satisfy my sweet tooth. I was pleasantly surprised! If you haven’t already discovered Ella’s wonderful blog & book, you really should. Thank you Ella for this wonderful recipe !!
