Breakfast at 26 Grains

Last week I met up with the lovely Natalie Goodchild for breakfast at 26 Grains. A tiny porridge restaurant that specialises in delicious wholesome grain based dishes. We had trouble deciding what to order from their mouth watering menu, as everything looked so delicious. In the end, I ordered a bowl of Banana & Cocao porridge, whilst Natalie went for the Blackberry Bay. We could have sat in there all day, chatting & eating bowls of porridge. It’s wonderful to find cool places to eat, that offer a huge variety of free-from options. If you’re meeting a friend in town for an early breakfast or maybe a late brunch, I recommend heading over to Neal’s Yard, (just off Seven Dials). I’ll definitely be heading back there again soon. Where is your favourite healthy hang out in London? Pop a comment below & I’ll add them to my list. Let’s spread the love like Nutella on toast!

Yellow Juice Boost

Today, I felt tired & I needed a bit of a boost. I resisted the temptation to grab a spoon and dive head first into the Nutella jar! Instead I made this delicious smoothie . . . Coconut water is packed full of goodness, it’s great for rehydrating after exercise. (Also a good hangover cure) I added a little bit of coconut cream too. Ingredients Coconut Water Mango Pineapple Lime Juice Mint Coconut Cream (optional) This smoothie is quite sweet, just what I needed to wake me up, after a late 10k last night with the midnight runners. Sunshine in a glass on a grey day, enjoy!

The book launch was held at London’s beautiful Laboratory Spa, the sun was shinning as we sat in the garden and  listened to some wonderful talks by nutritionist Ruth Tongue, fitness girls ‘Twice the Health’ and SportsStylists.coms Lucy Denver. Yoga Breakfast with Steffy White & Mind Body Bowl

Earlier this week I went along to an awesome yoga class with my favourite yogi in town, Steffy White. Everyone knows that I am a huge fan of Steffy’s kick ass classes, it’s a great workout for the whole body and the energy was super uplifting. Steffy challenges you to push yourself and to be brave. I’m working on my wheel! After working up an appetite on the mat, we had a delicious breakfast created by Annie [Mind Body Bowl] Annie’s food was even more tasty than it looks on instagram! I even brought some banana cake home for Jude. Thank you girls for a lovely start to the week.

Infruition 7 Days 7 Ways

I am so happy to see the sun shinning! This week, to make the most of this great weather, I have been training with my clients outside. We’ve been running, lunging, stretching and sweating! It’s important to stay hydrated after a tough workout, especially during the summer.  I recently discovered Infruition water bottles, at the health & fitness convention, Be:Fit London. The infrution bottle allows you to create your own flavoured water by adding fresh fruit to the chamber inside the bottle. I have been experimenting with different fruit combinations and here are some of my favourites. Headspace is a guide to mindfulness & meditation. James Duigan – The creator of Bodyism and author of the best selling ‘Clean & Lean’ diet. She has a hugely successful blog, a best selling book, her own app & Ella also writes a column for the Telegraph. [It’s worth noting that she is even more beautiful in real life than she is online] at deliciouslyella.com Calgary Avansino – British Vogue contributing editor & columnist for The Sunday Times, Mother & wellness warrior. The talk kicked off with some pretty shocking …

Confessions of a Personal Trainer.

Recently I have realised that people seem to make assumptions about me, when they learn that I am personal trainer. It seems that because I promote a healthy active lifestyle and do the school run in my nikes, people expect me to be a marathon runner and only eat organic, vegan, wheat free food. So, if you think that all personal trainers are health & fitness gurus, here are some confessions that may surprise you. I don’t exercise everyday. If you were a taxi driver, I doubt that you would go for a long drive on your day off. When I’m not training with my clients, I do enjoy running and practicing yoga but I also like having days off too. I have a husband, a son, friends, a life! (outside of the gym) I’m a rubbish swimmer. Swimming is my nemesis! I have never enjoyed swimming, it’s one kind of exercise that I can’t bring myself to do. I often recommend it to clients as there are lots of great health benefits of swimming, especially anti/postnatally. …

Get Motivated!

At the start of the year, we often have resolutions to get active and fit. Many of us start off strong for a week or two in January, but, it’s not long until we’re stealing our kids sweets and wondering if that blackberry gin & tonic counts as one of your five-a-day. Here are my top tips to help you get motivated & stay motivated! 1. Find a Friend! Agree to jog together twice a week. It’s safer to run in pairs and you are much less likely to give it a miss once you have made the commitment to your mate. 2. Get the Gear! Treat yourself to some new trainers, leggings or sports bra etc. You’ll be more keen to work out and if nothing else, at least you’ll look the part! 3. Challenge yourself! Sign up to a charity run. If you’re a beginner, you could try doing a 5k run. There are lots of different charity runs throughout the year. It’s great to have a date to work towards and you can get family and friends …

12 Days of Yoga

I’m 12 days in to the prAna yoga challenge. I have been lunging, stretching and breathing deeply each day. I am really enjoying it! This week, I tried Iyengar yoga for the first time. I had a quick chat with the instructor at the end of the class, coincidentally her name was Adrienne too! I told her that I was taking part in a yoga challenge and trying to do some yoga everyday for 30 days. We talked a little bit about yoga’s origins and how recently yoga has become hugely commercial and ‘cool’. She said that ‘When someone begins doing yoga, they need a flexible mind, not a flexible body’ Yoga is for both the mind as well as the body, it’s not about perfecting the perfect pose. However, there’s no denying the physical benefits of practicing yoga. It’s a great way to strengthen your core, improve your posture and sculpt your body. I feel 2 inches taller after an hour of yoga. I can’t wait for next week when I can will be going …

Part time Vegan

Could you go vegan? I tried it once . . . ‘I have a lot of friends that are vegans and I know that they will be cheering me on. I am challenging myself to see if I can actually do this. I like to think that I am not naive about where our food comes from, but if I’m honest, I don’t really question it much either. It is true that ignorance is bliss. My usual diet contains a lot of meat. My favourite dinner is hoisin duck stir fry!, so this will certainly be a challenge for me. You may have seen a post that I wrote recently, titled ‘Dairy Free’. My diet is mostly dairy free, (with the exception of Nutella) so you could say that I am already half way there. So what will I be eating? A common misconception, is that vegan diets are boring and that all vegans are hippy, tree huggers, that only eat nuts! The reality is that there are hundreds of foods available for vegans. Another common …
